DONA Approved Postpartum Doula Workshop

 

A Postpartum Doula:

  • Offers education, nonjudgmental physical and emotional support during the first three months or more following the addition of a new baby to a family;
  • Assists with newborn care, family adjustment, meal preparation and light household tidying;
  • Offers evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents and makes appropriate referrals when necessary.

 

This workshop will be of interest to:

  • Those who have an interest in postpartum care and who wish to become a trained doula;
  • Health care professionals who wish to expand their knowledge of postpartum support.
  • Approved for 9 CEU's with Massage Therapy Association of Nova Scotia (MTANS).
  • Earn 27 CEU's toward your Birth Doula Recertification with DONA International.
  • Approved for CEU's for Lamaze Childbirth Educators.

 

Seminar Fees

Cost varies depending on the training location, but, on average, the three-day workshop costs $450 CAD, and includes 3 days/27 hours of classroom education, workshop manual, and snacks.

 

Prerequisites

One book from each of the first three sections on the DONA reading list must be read before attending your 27 hour postpartum doula training. Read the MOST recently published edition available for each book, which should be the year indicated, or more recent. These can be found in the Postpartum Doula Certification Overview document on the DONA International website.

FAQ

How do I become a DONA Certified Postpartum Doula?

After completing the 27 hour DONA Approved Workshop, there are several steps towards becoming certified. These can be found in the Postpartum Doula Certification Overview document on the DONA International website

 

What is the cancellation policy?

Refunds will be given  30 days or more prior to the start date, less a $50 administrative fee. Refunds will not be given within 30 days of the workshop, however, the participant is welcome to apply the fee to a future workshop (the same workshop they originally registered for) within 2 years of the workshop date.

 

Are babes in arms permitted to attend?

Babes in arms (typically 3 months and under) are welcome to attend the workshop, however, we ask that you step out of the room if they begin to make sounds that may be disruptive to other participants (happy or sad).  Please contact the facilitator if you have any questions.
