DONA Approved Postpartum Doula Workshop


A Postpartum Doula:

  • Offers education, companionship and nonjudgmental support during the postpartum
    4th trimester;
  • Assists with newborn care, family adjustment, meal preparation and light household tidying;
  • Offers evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents and makes appropriate referrals when necessary.


This workshop will be of interest to:

  • Women who have an interest in postpartum care and who wish to become a trained doula;
  • Health care professionals who wish to expand their knowledge of postpartum support.


Seminar Fees

The cost of the DONA Approved Postpartum Doula Workshop is $450 and includes 3 days/27 hours of classroom education, workshop manual, and snacks.



All participants are required to complete the following workshop prerequisites (A and B):


A. Read the DONA International Position Papers:

1. The Postpartum Doula’s Role in Maternity Care

2. The Birth Doula's Contribution to Modern Maternity Care


B. Read at least one book from each of the following three categories from the Postpartum Doula Required Reading List:

1. Becoming a Mother

2. The Newborn

3. Breastfeeding

How do I become a DONA Certified Postpartum Doula?

Postpartum Doula Training is comprised of a 27 hour DONA Approved training that covers infant care and feeding, infant states and cues, normal infant appearances, transitioning into parenthood, postpartum needs and normal postpartum adjustment, when, how to, and who to refer to when necessary.

What is the cancellation policy?

Refunds will be given  30 days or more prior to the start date, less a $50 administrative fee. Refunds will not be given within 30 days of the workshop, however, the participant is welcome to apply the fee to a future workshop (the same workshop they originally registered for) within 2 years of the workshop date.


Are babes in arms permitted to attend?

Babes in arms (typically 3 months and under) are welcome to attend the workshop, however, we ask that you step out of the room if they begin to make sounds that may be disruptive to other participants (happy or sad).  Please contact the facilitator if you have any questions.
